Premium Subscription

While we are committed to keeping the core functionality of music4dance.net free to the public, we are rolling out an annual subscription service for ten dollars. We are offering an advertising-free experience during your subscription period as well as access to premium features. We expect to be experimenting with which features are included in the premium package. Here are the current features available only to premium subscribers:

  • Access to bonus content – songs that we weren’t able to match to a publisher or songs that have not yet been tagged with a dance style.
  • Create a Spotify playlist from search results.
  • An advertising-free experience.

We will continue to look at what new features make sense to incorporate into the premium feature list. In addition, a side benefit of a premium subscription is that your suggestions for new features will be weighed more strongly than others.

In order to purchase a subscription, please make sure you’ve first created an account and signed in. Then go to our contributions page and click on the purchase subscription button.

We’re currently experimenting with different subscription levels with the hope that this will help us fund additional features. The levels are roughly modeled after the levels in ballroom dance syllabi.

  • $0: Social Dancer – or “Member of the Community”
  • $15: Basic Subscription – or “Absolute Beginner”
    • All of the benefits of “Social Dancer”
    • An advertising-free experience.
    • Access to bonus content – songs that we weren’t able to match to a publisher or songs that have not yet been tagged with a dance style.
    • Create a Spotify playlist from search results.
    • Exporting up to the first hundred results of a search to a file (also requires that you be a member of our beta program)
  • $25: Bronze – or “Friend of music4dance”
    • Includes everything in the basic subscription
    • Allows exporting larger lists of songs to Spotify
  • $50 Silver – or “Dance partner”
    • Includes everything in the Bronze subscription.
    • Allows exporting search results from Spotify starting from any page of the results
    • Exporting up to the first thousand results of a search to a file (also requires that you be a member of our beta program)
    • Similar to Bronze, we’ll be adding occasional premiums at this level
  • $100 Gold – or “Sustaining member”
    • Includes everything in the Silver subscription.
    • This level of membership pays the server cost for music4dance for a month, hence the sustaining moniker.
    • Similar to Silver, we’ll be adding occasional premiums at this level and considering adding features exclusive to this level.

There are also two special memberships:

  • Student: If you are a current student (or someone else in need) who would like access to the premium features but doesn’t have the resources to pay for a subscription, please contact us.
  • Buy a Feature: If there is a feature that we’re not currently offering that would change your life, please contact us and we can talk about what it would take to implement. We are, of course always open to ideas, but we would be open to changing priorities for paid features.

Donations

If you’re not interested in a subscription, but you would like to help keep the site running, you are welcome to donate any amount to the cause. Simply visit our contributions page, enter an amount in the box labeled ‘Donate’, and click the ‘Donate’ button. Please note that donations are not tax-deductible; see the FAQ for details.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How is my credit card information secured?

We use Stripe to process transactions. This is a service similar to PayPal that handles the payment information without ever giving your credit card information to our server. So music4dance.net never sees anything about your payment information other than your email address.

Why does my receipt say Gramamoto, Inc.?

Because Gramamoto, Inc. is the company that builds and maintains music4dance.net. The main business is currently a consulting business, so but we also have a DBA (Doing Business As) certificate from the state of Washington for both music4dance and music4dance.net

Can I use PayPal instead

Yes – please just contact us, and we’ll send you a PayPal link. Once you’ve paid, we’ll set up your subscription manually.

Does my subscription auto-renew?

No, we have not enabled any auto-renewal feature in our subscription. We will display a reminder banner on the site and send you a follow-up email approximately one month before your subscription expires, prompting you to renew manually. If we receive sufficient interest in premium subscriptions, we will consider implementing auto-renewal.

How can I tell when my subscription expires?

Your subscription information, including enrollment date and expiry date, is available on your “My Profile” page.

Is my subscription or donation tax-deductible?

Please know that we are not experts on tax codes in the U.S., much less any other country you may be asking this question from. Furthermore, music4dance does not currently receive sufficient revenue to cover its basic operating expenses, let alone consult a tax lawyer.

That said, to the best of our knowledge, the simple answer to this question is no.

Music4dance does not have non-profit status in any jurisdiction, such as 501 (c)(3) status in the U.S. Therefore, you should not claim any money you have paid to Music4dance as a subscription or donation as a tax deduction.

We’ve been careful to use the bare terms “contribution” and “donation” on the site rather than “charitable contribution” or “charitable donation,” but we do understand that there is some flavor of even the bare terms that there might be tax implications. If you have suggestions for more precise terms to replace them, please contact us, and we’ll consider updating the site.
