Many of the features of music4dance are available without registering or creating an account.   However, some of the most exciting features that we are developing will require an account, since they will allow you to customize the music4dance experience in various ways.

Note: Music4Dance has been through a major upgrade since this documentation was written.  The general concepts on this page are still generally accurate.  But colors, icons and some specifics will differ from the live site.  Please contact us with specific questions or requests for updates.

Once you register for an account, you can log in and start using these features.  The first feature that is enabled by registering is the ability to tag songs and customize the list creation experience.  In the future we hope to have a variety of features from adding your own songs and lists to exporting your lists as playlists to various streaming services.

Registering

Click on the Register (A) link at the top right of the music4dance site, this will take you to the account registration page.

You can register for an music4dance account either by creating a new account directly with music4dance or by using your Spotify, Google, Facebook or Microsoft account.

Registering with a new account

To create a new account create a user name, add an email address and create a password.  The password must be at least 6 characters long, have at least one non letter or digit character, at least one digit character, and at least one uppercase and one lowercase letter.

Click the register button and make any changes requested to get the password to conform or find a unique user name.  Once register has succeeded, you will get a message to check your email.  Please make sure to check your junk email folder as well as your inbox.

The email will contain a message to click on a link to confirm, once you’ve done this you will be able to log in and use the advanced features of the website.

Registering with an external service

You can register with Spotify, Google, Facebook or Microsoft by clicking on the appropriate button.  The service that you choose will ask you for login information (if you’re not already logged in) and send your email address back to music4dance for registration.  You should land back on a music4dance page that asks you to choose a User Name.  Once you’ve done this click Register and you are now logged into music4dance and ready to explore the advanced features of the website.

Adding an external account

You can add an external registration to an existing account by doing the following:

• Click on your user name in the upper right corner of the website
• Choose “Account Settings”
• On the “Account Settings” page, click on “External Logins: Manage”
• The “External Logins” page lists the supported services.  Click on the name of the service that you would like to connect and go through approval screens.

About You

Once you have created an account we’ll ask you a couple of other quick questions on the “about you” page.  If you don’t want to answer right now, just go ahead and start using the new features, you can always get back to adjust this information in the account settings page.

Account Settings

When you are logged into the music4dance site, you will see two new options in the upper right of the screen –  A greeting with your username (A) and a “Log off” option (B).  Clicking on your user name will take you to the account management page.

Here you can see the date on which you created your account (C), options to change your password and manage your external accounts* (D), view and change your profile preferences and (d) show a list of all of the songs that you’ve tagged.

Logging In

Once you’ve registered with music4dance, you can log in by clicking on the login link on the upper right of the site and enter your user name or email and password if you created a new account or by clicking on the Spotify, Microsoft, Google or Facebook button if you used one of those services to register.

• Currently, supported external login services are Spotify, Microsoft Live, Google, and Facebook.  Please submit a feature request if there is another service that you prefer.
